About Us

CETL is located on the third floor of the Corner House at the corner of Charlotte and Woodland Streets.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning offers a wide variety of programs and services to enhance the quality of educational experiences at Clark University. These programs center on the Learn Through Inquiry signature of Clark University, which describes the hands-on learning and problem solving experience in which students learn by actively working through real problems, mastering modes of inquiry, and acquiring the knowledge base required to ask and to answer important questions. Each student has an opportunity to participate in a culminating discipline-based experience in the context of senior seminars, research, or other capstone experiences.

Mission

Our mission is to provide resources to support, strengthen and recognize excellent and innovative teaching by both faculty and graduate students, and to promote active learning by students. We believe that despite different disciplines, research agendas, and departmental or administrative concerns, the practice of teaching unites us. Even as we each pursue our scholarship, teaching remains at the heart of our professional lives and ultimately defines the mission of this University. Recognizing the central importance of teaching requires that we, both individually and collectively, need to continually develop this part of our professional lives. As colleagues and members of the University community we are committed to supporting one another's efforts to develop innovative and effective teaching and learning strategies.
