Conclusion

In conclusion, for coral reefs
shallower then 6 meters, biodiversity increases with depth, wave action,
and distance from pollution sources. Interestingly, we were able to
detect previously noted shifting hard coral dominance to
D. labrynthiformis
from its relative, D. strigosa,
as the former is immune to BBD disease, but the latter is not and has
been the dominant species prior to disease introduction. Finally, natural
disasters may take their own toll, as Hurricane Fabian could be the reason
that the Gorgonia vantalina is absent from John Smith’s bay.
