Tips For Conducting Marine Research
Research Methods Prior to Bermuda Trip
If you have a gist of what you want to study prior to going to Bermuda than research methods before going there. Tide pools, algae, snails, chiton, and crabs; each of these topics have specific methods used to tag, quantify and locate them. If you do a little research before going there your experiment will be easier.
Intertidal Zone Tips
Survey your area to make sure that it will be safe to conduct research during high/low tide. The first two days of my research experiment were a little dangerous but by the third day I almost fell to my doom (well maybe not to my doom, but it would of hurt alot.) in a jagged rocky tide pool because the waves were so fierce. I am sure if I would of fell I would have not gotten back easily either because the current was quite strong. Research the high tide level of your area and ask other scientist/researchers about the area you are studying in, they may be able to give you pointers.
Cheapness Costs A Lot of Money
Currently in my desk I have two cameras a 2yr old Sony Cyber shot and a new Canon Power shot. Why do I have two cameras of roughly the same caliber, you ask? I have two cameras now because I find it difficult to throw away my 500-dollar cyber shot that now no longer works. ......
Being the thrifty person I am, I double bagged my cyber shot in a plastic baggy for all of $2. I remember smirking at tourist walking around in their $50 plastic camera coverings. "Ha-ha not me", I thought, "I saved $48.00!". Than on the last Friday a giant tidal wave crashed upon me and caused some water to seep into my double-bagged camera. Horror stricken I scrambled up the rocky surface in a attempt to revive (placed it out to dry) my camera but it was to no avail, it had died, and along with it a sizeable portion of my bank account. So Cheapness does not pay, in fact I paid, alot to save a 4th of what my new camera cost me.
Herein lies the last photo of my camera. I am guessing this was taken as the wave hit, as its mostly a blur.
