For
the research project we were able to design in New England, we were
fortunate enough to be able to make use of the rocky intertidal zone at
Northeastern University's Marine Center. I was able to work with two
other students in order to design and execute a project working with
the
tidepools
in Nahant.
The
rocky intertidal zone is an environment bordering the ocean that is
formed by rocks and is covered at high tide and exposed at low tide,
making it an ideal place to study the plentiful tidepools.
We
chose to do a manipulation experiment involving water composition and
light availability to six tidepools in the high zone of the intertidal.
These pools were barely touched by a normal high tide and received only
slight input/output of seawater on a normal basis.
