An Introduction to Bermuda
Bermuda is an island in the
Atlantic ocean off the coast of South Carolina. It is approximately at
the same latitude as Atlanta, Georgia, however its location places it
in reach of the Gulf Stream, which is responsible for its mild
temperatures and subtropical climate. There is an extensive reef system
located around the island, with the larger reefs on the North shore and
the rim reefs on the South shore. Both of the reefs that I chose were
located in bays on the Northern shore.
We as a class travelled to the Bermuda
Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) located in St. George, Bermuda,
where we spent eight days exploring the region and subsequently
designing and implementing our own research projects.
I
chose to follow a very beautiful, very skittish fish to determine its
foraging behavior and then research its effects on the reefs of
Bermuda.
What kind of fish?
