Nahant Methods
Using a .25 meter squared quadrate mussels were
found in the intertidal at two different
locations canoe beach, a shelters location, and
east point a more exposed beach. When mussels
were found the quadrate was positioned so the
majority of the mussels were in the center. The
number of mussels was counted. The present
barnacle cover was also determined. Each site
had at least 20 quadrate records.
Mussels were
plotted against the percent of barnacle cover. A
regression was preformed to see if there was a
significant trend of increasing number of
mussels with increase barnacle percent cover.

The smaller quadrate was used for this
experiment
