Raw Data:

Pool ID Codes

Here is the raw data from the recordings. The surveyed pools are labeled A-R. Pools A-D are the pools at Nahant that I re-visited and recorded two sets of data on the crab. The other pools were random data sets, Rand indicates random sample from Nahant, Rye indicates a random sample from Rye, NH. The 0/0 data indicates information from the first visit/second visit on the two research trips on 9/28 and 11/14. The Excel Spreadsheet may be downloaded here.

Totals:

Figure 3

I calculated the total number of species in each pool and ran a Chi-sqaure test to find the expected value of each species in any given tidepool. The Signifigance value was 0.062710225. The total number of crab recorded was 39 with an expected value of 13 per tide pool. Cancer had a total of 7 crab recorded. Carcinus had a total of 19. Hemigrapsus had a total of 13.

Temperature Readings:

Temperature readings from the iButton were a mixed result. The readings from 9/28 clearly showed Pools A-D testing at around 16 degrees celsius, 16.5 and 15.5 degrees were the high and low. From Rye, NH the iButton data showed tide pool readings at between 5.5 and 9.5 in the tide pools. For the 11/14 trip to Nahant, the data showed tide pool temperature at around 10 celsius. The data collected showed an expected drop in temperature as the season progressed towards winter. The data shows little variance between pools and thus has been deemed insignificant.
