Nerita versicolor left the pools at an expedient rate. Pool one experienced a drop from 101 individuals to 23 individuals and then another drop to 22 individuals over the two experimental days. Pool two experienced a change from 101 to 18 to 15. Pool three's change was from 101 to 4 to 10 individuals. Pool three was the only pool with an immigration of individuals at any point. The raw data shows the values of individuals in, near (10cm) and in the area (10cm<100cm) of each pool. Seven, 29, and 27 individuals moved more than 100cm away in the first, second and third pools respectively within the first day. Salinity fluctuated up and down in each of the tide pools. Pool one experienced 37%, 40%, 38%, then 39% salinity at each time checked. Pool two followed a similar pattern of 37%, 39%, 37%, then 39% salinity. Pool three fluctuated from 37%, 39.5%, 37.5%, to 39% salinity. The general ocean differed in pattern by generally staying somewhat more constant in salinity to the pattern of 39%, 38%, 38%, and 39% salinity. Plotted salinity vs. time with respect to each pool and the ocean shows us this trend. The nerite retention rate over time decreased swiftly at first, increasing just as swiftly as less nerites left the pools during each consecutive period. Pool three saw a gain in nerite number between the second and third days. Pool one retained 22.77% of its population in the first period and 95.65% of that number through the second period. Pool two sees 17.82% and then 83.33% days one and two respectively. Pool three differs in this in that it only retained 3.96% on the first day, but then saw an increase to 250% on the third day. When Nerita versicolor retention rate is plotted against salinity there is a general trend that higher retention is correlated with higher salinity. Pool three sees an increase in retention rate with a drop in salinity in one case. The χ² analysis gives χ² values of 449.57 and 420.47 to the data from days two and three. Given 4 degrees of freedom for the second day of nerite migration, p=5.3872E-96. For day three also given 4 degrees of freedom p=1.05E-89.
