John Smith's Bay

John Smith's Bay, on the South Shore of Bermuda, was discovered by the same Captain John Smith who founded Jamestown, VA, and who befriended Pocahontas.  It is a beach that is more popular with the natives than the tourists.  By taking a short swim off the long, flat, and sandy beach, one can reach the shallow coral reef which is comprised of some large coral heads.  On the opposite side of a rocky embankment from the beach, is a short rocky intertidal zone.  I chose this location to collect from because it is not as heavily populated as some other beaches, and potentially not as polluted for the same reason.  I thought it would be a good comparison to a site that may be more heavily polluted, such as St. George's Harbor.
