On April 9th 2007 the Botanical Diversity Class went on a field trip to Ponkapoag Bog in Blue Hills Reservation located south of Boston MA near the exchange for I-93 and I-95. The field trip was aquatic plants and extreme habitats. The acidic sphagnum bogs can only support those plants adapted to such environments. The weather this spring has not very kind as the temperatures have been abnormally cool and the plants have been delayed in their budding and blooming. The temperatures on the day of the field trip were somewhere in the thirties, and there was floating ice in parts of the bog. Click on the images to read their captions.
