Bromeliaceae > Tillandsia - ~400 species

The largest and most wide-spread genus in the family, ranging from Southern United states to central Chile and Argentina.

All of the members are air plants (epiphytic), and have hairy seeds.

Flowers have superior ovaries forming capsules and wind-scattered seeds.

Many cultivated for their red or pink bracts and blue flowers.

Tillandsia usneoides - South-Eastern North America to Argentina - "Spanish Moss" - develops long rops of thin, twisted branches covered in furry scales with tiny, inconspicuous flowers. No roots, instead living off of dust, dew and rain absorbed by the scales.
