Species and Cultivars

Due to its showy flowers and relatively easy care, the Hibiscus is used primarily as an ornamental plant.  Whether it is grown as a hedge, flush against a wall, or as a solitary plant both indoors and outdoors, the hibiscus will add a splash of color and vitality in any location.  However, there many species that have found practical uses as well, in locations varying from the Americas, to Africa, Australia and New Zealand, as well as certain Asian countries.  This section highlights some of the more well known species of Hibiscus and gives a short description and image (if available) of each type of plant.
