Malopeae --- carpels in two or more spiral whorls

            ~ Malope, Palava, Kitaibelia

Hibisceae --- capsule fruit, persistant carpels

            ~ Hibiscus, Gossypium*

Malveae --- schizocarp fruit, stigmas decurrent on style

            ~ Malva, Malvastrum, Lavatera, Athaea, Sidalea, Hoheria

                        Includes mallow family

Abutileae --- schizocarp fruit, stigmas apical

            ~ Abutilon, Sphaeralcae, Modiola, Sida

                        Includes Chinese bell flower

Ureneae --- style branches, 2 x as many stigmas as carpels

            ~Malvaviscus, Pavonia, Urena

                        Its fibers are used in burlap

* Plants within the Gossypium genera are species of cotton
