Student Leaders in Service
Student Leaders in Service
(SLIS) is a part-time AmeriCorps program sponsored by the Massachusetts and
Rhode Island Campus Compacts. Students who perform 300 hours of volunteer work
throughout the school year receive a $1000 education award.
SLIS member service
activities should be designed to help communities solve problems in the areas of
education, public safety, the environment, and other human needs (like health
and housing) by serving directly and by recruiting other people to serve as
volunteers. The only volunteer activities you are not allowed to count are those
prohibited by AmeriCorps, including lobbying, political, religious or advocacy
activities. If you have a question if your preferred activity can count, you
can ask Micki Davis, who coordinates the SLIS program at Clark. Like other
private citizens, you may participate in the prohibited AmeriCorps activities on
your own time, at your own expense, and at your own initiative.
