KJZZ 91.5 FM, a public radio station in Tempe, Ariz., recently turned to Deborah Martin, professor of geography, to explain "the logistical and infrastructure-type issues" faced by cities and towns that experience rapid growth. The show focused on neighborhoods in "America's Top Boomtown" of Gilbert, near Phoenix.

Martin is an urban geographer with interests in place identity, local politics, legal geography, qualitative methodologies and social movements, particularly neighborhood activism.
