2006 Season Recap
In Jim Hayes inaugural campaign with the Clark University women’s tennis program, the Cougars posted a 1-12 (0-7 NEWMAC) mark. Their only victory was a 9-0 sweep over non-conference foe Bay Path College. Clark swept doubles matches as senior co-captains Emily Slack and Alycia Weiner posted an 8-3 victory at the top spot. Junior Kristen Domurad and first-year Phoebe Livingtson earned their first doubles victory with an 8-6 win at number two, while sophomore Rebecca Good and first-year Nicole Wachtel prevailed 8-1 at number three.
In singles play, Slack earned 6-1, 6-1 wins at number one, while Wachtel blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth spot.
Other highlights for the Cougars included the addition of first-year Celina Grisi, who led the team in number one singles play with a 5-2 record. A native of La Paz, Bolivia, Grisi posted a 6-3, 6-3 win in her first collegiate singles match against conference rival Wheaton College. She also earned points in a 6-2, 6-4 victory in top singles against Smith College and notched a 6-2, 6-0 win in number one singles in Clark’s final conference match of the season against Springfield College.
Additionally, the first-year phenom held a three-match number one singles win streak against Emmanuel College, Smith College, and Rhode Island College.
Slack and Weiner also paired up to notch a pair of victories for Clark, including an 8-3 doubles victory in their final home match of the season against Worcester State College, while Domurad and Livingston also won two doubles matches.
Rebecca Good ’09 (3.50) was the lone beneficiary of the NEWMAC academic all-conference award for women’s tennis.
