Highlights
2009
The 2009 men’s lacrosse campaign began as a season filled with promise. However, the Cougars pre-season hopes were dashed when three leading scorers and the team’s top face-off specialist suffered season-ending injuries. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Clark (2-13, 1-6) got solid individual performances from freshmen Chris Johnson and Phil Winslow, who combined for 50 points, and saw senior goalkeeper Tyler Campbell and sophomore long-stick midfielder Tim Roche receive Pilgrim League second-team recognition. Campbell set a new Clark record in career saves (635), while Roche broke the school mark for groundballs in a season (111).
Several players received recognition for their individual accomplishments both on and off the field. Leading the team in scoring, senior Shawn Roche (28-17-45) and Campbell secured the squad’s Most Valuable Player accolades, while sophomore Hakeem Hindi accepted dual team honors with the Most Improved Player and Coach’s Award. Senior Drew Silverman received the Athletic Department’s Senior Class Award, given annually to the senior athlete who best exemplifies class, spirit and integrity in his or her athletic endeavor.
Seniors Jeff DeLuca, David Schuberth and Drew Silverman, sophomore Hakeem Hindi and Kevin Schofield and freshmen Travis Durkin and Phil Winslow represented Clark on the Pilgrim League All-Academic team.
2008
Even though the Pilgrim League Tournament eluded the 2008 Clark University men’s lacrosse team, that didn’t stop the 4-11, 2-5 squad from capturing its first-ever win over Lasell College in its regular-season finale. Senior Andrew Webber's goal with 41 seconds remaining in the first overtime lifted Clark to the thrilling 6-5 win on Senior Day. That marked their second conference win of the season as the Cougars had beaten Norwich University (15-4) earlier in the spring. The Cougars other two wins came against Misericordia University (Pa.) (13-2) and Nichols College (11-2).
Clark made significant strides in conference play this season. They fell to Babson College and MIT by four points with identical 9-5 losses, lost to Wheaton College by just two (9-7) and were edged by Mass. Maritime by one goal (10-9).
This season also saw some noteworthy individual milestones for the Cougars. Senior Dan Rosenak and junior Shawn Roche received second team All-Conference honors, marking the first time Clark players earned the accolade since 2002. Rosenak, Clark’s career groundball record holder, also earned the distinction of being named the team’s first-ever United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American this spring. Additionally, Rosenak, juniors Drew Silverman and Jeff Deluca, sophomore Alex Craven, and freshmen Kevin Schofield and Sam McAdam garnered Pilgrim League All-Academic honors.
Coach Davis also celebrated player accomplishments with team awards. Co-Most Valuable Player honors went to Dan Rosenak and Scott Wheeler, Most Improved Player was Mike Fuchs and Coach’s Award was given to Nate Sherman.
2007
A program on the rise, the Clark University men’s lacrosse team completed the season with the second-most wins in the program’s 17-year history. After setting a new mark for victories in a season (7) in 2006, the Cougars posted a 6-7 overall record this spring.
Winning a pair of games to open the season, Clark earned its first 2-0 start since 2000. The squad went on to secure victories over Mitchell College (20-2), Nichols College (8-7), Becker College (15-2) and the lone conference victory over Norwich University (10-8) to cap its six-win season. Notable player accomplishments include a new record for groundballs in a season by Dan Rosenak (283), a Pilgrim League Player of the Week nod for first-year attack and team-leading scorer Garrett McAdam (32-8-40) and All-Academic league all-star honors to Rosenak, Sam Musen, Chris Sataline and Alex Craven.
The Cougars most prized initiative is their community service commitment to Americans Supporting Americans (ASA), an organization that provides aid to United States troops in Iraq. The Clark squad, who foster a military unit out of Fort Hood, Tx. made two shipments of food, clothes, magazines and health care items to the 135-soldier division. Clark’s efforts were recognized in the January 29, 2007 national publication of the NCAA News. The Cougars plan to continue supporting their fostered company until the troops come home.
2005
Under the direction of head coach Evan Davis (3rd season) and second-year assistant
coach John Toto ‘99, Clark University's men’s lacrosse team finished the 2005 season
with a 4-11 overall record and 0-8 in the Pilgrim League. The Cougars defeated Green Mountain
(9-4), Johnson State (17-3), Emerson (13-6) and Mt. Saint Vincent (9-5). Highlighting the
season was first-year Daniel Rosenak setting a school record in ground balls in a season (106),
senior goalkeeper Alan Green breaking the school record for saves in a game against Babson College
with 33 saves and junior Scott Foglietta set a school record for assists in a game against Johnson
State (10). Junior Mike Myers recorded an impressive 19 ground balls against Johnson State and broke
his own ground balls in a game mark, 11 against Curry College set last year.
Leading the way for the Cougars this year was first-year sensation Andrew Webber who led the
team in goals with 43. He added 12 assists for a team-high 55 points. Webber was ranked fourth in
the conference in goals and seventh in points. Foglietta had a team-high 29 assists and chipped in
13 goals for 42 points. He was ranked fourth in the Pilgrim League in assists. First-year Jon Ponte
was second on the team with 14 goals, four assists and 18 points while sophomore Micha Prescot added
11 goals, three assists and 59 ground balls. Rosenak also had an impressive rookie season and led
the team and league in ground balls (106). Sophomore Dan Stern was ranked third in the conference
in ground balls with 76. He added nine goals and eight assists.
2004
In 2004, Mike Myers ’06 set a new school record for ground balls in a season (83) and
ground balls in a game (11). He also was ranked 2nd in the Pilgrim League in ground balls per
game and 3rd in total ground balls. Devon Kinnard ’06, was selected Pilgrim League Player
of the Week.
2003
The 2003 Clark University men’s lacrosse team recently concluded its season under first-
year head coach Evan Davis. The Cougars finished the year with a 1-7 overall record, 0-4 NEWMAC
record and 1-5 Pilgrim League record. The Cougars ended the season with an exciting 12-8 home
win over Maine Maritime Academy. Senior attackman and co-captain Kyle Devitte led the Cougars with
three goals and four assists while first-year goalkeeper Joe Snevely 17 saves to record his first
collegiate win. Leading the way for the Cougars in 2003 was Devitte who finished the season with
a team-high 11 goals while adding five assists for a total of 16 points. He recorded 15 ground balls.
Junior attackman Ryan Race was second on the team with seven goals. First-year attackman Scott
Foglietta had an impressive rookie season with five goals, six assists and 11 points. Other
contributors to the Cougars’ offense were sophomore midfielder Joseph Becher who had six
goals and senior midfielder Antonio Andrade who finished the year with four goals and two
assists. Becher led the team with 27 ground balls while Andrade finished second with 24 ground
balls.
2002
In 2002, Jeff Cohen '02 was named to the Pilgrim League All-Conference and NEWMAC All-
Conference team for the second consecutive season. In addition, he was named to the NEILA East/
West All-Star Team. He led the Cougars with 12 goals and 10 assists.
2001
In 2001 Jeff Cohen '02 and Mike Gauthier '03 were selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference
Team. Cohen who was also selected to the Pilgrim All-Conference Team finished the year leading
the team with 21 goals, 21 assists and 42 points. Gauthier finished the year with 20 goals, 3
assists, and 23 points. Senior Tim Keene was named to the NEILA Senior All-Star team and finished
the year with 18 goals, 6 assists and 24 points.
2000
Joe Figler '00 was named to the 2000 NEWMAC All-Conference Team. He finished his career as
Clark's leader in assists (114) and also tied Clark's all-time point record (178). Figler and
Tom Lovett GR participated in the NEILA Senior All-Star Game.
Steve Gaudreau '03 earned Pilgrim League Southeast Division Co-Rookie of the Year honors
after leading the team with 26 goals.
1999
John Toto '99 closed out an impressive career in 1999 with numerous honors and awards. He
broke the Clark scoring records for career goals (121), season goals (58), and season points
(69) and led the NEWMAC Conference in point scoring. Toto was ranked seventh in the nation in
NCAA Division III scoring with an average 4.46 goals/game and 5.31 points/game.
Toto was twice selected NEWMAC Player of the Week in 1999, and he was named to the NEWMAC All-
Conference Team. He also was honored as the Pilgrim League Southeast Division Player of the
Year. In addition, Toto was a New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse League Honorable Mention, and
he received one of three Clark Athletic Department Merit Awards for his lacrosse achievements.
The 1999 season saw Joe Figler '00 break the school records for assists in a game (8 against
the University of New England), assists in a season (35), and career assists (100). Jeff Cohen '02
was named to the Pilgrim League Southeast All-Star Team.
1998
In 1998 Joe Figler '00 tied the Clark season scoring record with 58 points. He was named to
the Pilgrim League Southeast Division All-Star Team.
1995
After sitting out a season with a knee injury, senior Brad Baharian returned to lead the 1995
squad in scoring with 28 goals, 4 assists, and 32 points. In his final week of play, he was
named Pilgrim League Player of the Week. He ended his collegiate playing career with 88 points
(65 goals, 23 assists).
1992
In Clark's first season as a member of the Pilgrim League in 1992, Jon Weiner '94 was named to
the league's All-Star Team after finishing second in league scoring with an average 5.8 points
per game. Weiner had an impressive season, breaking Clark school records for season points (58)
and season goals (39). He also tied the school record for goals/game with nine.
