Men's & Women's Cross Country
Women's Team Highlights

2008

Led by seniors Amanda Haimes, Kaitlyn Sephton and Andrea DeRocco, the Clark University women’s cross country team made its presence felt on the trails this fall. The Cougars best performance of the season came at the Western New England College Invitational, where they placed fifth in the 20-team field. That’s also where Sephton earned the fastest time of her career with a 13th place, 20:54 finish, claiming Clark’s Cougar of the Week honor for her performance in the 5K.

Sephton also joined teammates DeRocco, Haimes, Emma Siemasko, Lily Chaleff and Katelin Wolfinger at the 2008 ECAC Championships held in Bristol, R.I. Sephton placed 109th out of 298 runners to help Clark finish 33rd. In other meet highlights, Clark placed fourth (99 points) at the Worcester City Championships and 10th (280 points) at the NEWMAC Championships. Sephton and Siemasko finished one-two for Clark in both races, placing 12th (22:42) and 13th (22:46), respectively, in the Worcester City Meet, and 55th (21:28) and 59th (21:39.11) at NEWMAC’s, respectively.

The women’s cross country team took the lead in the classroom for Clark this fall. They placed five runners on the NEWMAC All-Academic team: Senior Kaitlyn Sephton, junior Emma Siemasko and sophomores Brooke Badon and Heather Goodale.

2007

The 2007 women’s cross country team experienced one of its most successful campaigns in recent years. They captured three team titles for the first time since 1999, including just their second Worcester City Championship in 12 years, coupled with the Community College of Rhode Island (1st/4) and Western New England College (1st/12) Invitationals. The Cougars also improved its performance at the NEWMAC Championships with their eighth place showing – one spot higher than the previous season.

Graduate student Emily Tremaine led the Cougar pack this season. She claimed the Worcester City individual title and set a new course record at CCRI in a time of 19:36. Tremaine also earned her first-ever All-Conference honor after finishing sixth at the NEWMAC Championships this fall.

Tremaine, along with seniors Jenna Glazer, Ellen Durand and Keri Powers, junior Kaitlyn Sephton, and sophomores Mary Martin and Emma Siemasko concluded their season at the NCAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships. The women raced to a 24th place finish in the 47-team field.

Tremaine, Sephton, Martin, Siemasko and junior Kimberly Choate were all named to the NEWMAC All-Academic squad

2006

Despite the loss of Clark University women’s cross country ace Emily Tremaine to injury this season, the experienced and solid group of returnees led the Cougars across the trails this fall. In fact, the Clark squad concluded its season by sending seven runners to the NCAA New England Regional Championships held at Veteran’s Golf Course at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., a trip the Cougars had not made since 2004. Senior Becky Mayer, junior Ellen Durand, sophomore Kaitlyn Sephton, junior Kerri Powers, sophomore Allison Camp, junior Vera Simon-Nobes and sophomore Amanda Haimes represented Clark at the NCAA Regional Meet, placing 21st in the 48-team field. Mayer, who finished first for Clark in all but one race this fall, led the Cougars in the 6k competition. She finished 92nd in a time of 24.35. Durand was 137th (25.48), Sephton took 157th (26.25), Powers placed 191st (27.11), Camp was 201st (27.36), Nobes was 204th (27:45) and Haimes finished 258th (29.14). They were the top pack for the Cougars all this season.

For the second consecutive year, the Cougars placed third at the Worcester City Invitational and ninth at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships. Mayer recorded a season-best fifth place performance (19:55) at the Worcester Meet, while Durand, who finished second in seven of eight races this season, posted a personal-record (20:50) at the Roger Williams Invitational. Sophomore Liz Gomez also shined for the Cougars in a pair of races this fall. She placed third (23:11) at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational and raced a PR 23:02 at the Western New England College Invite.

In addition to their on the trail accolades, the Cougar cross country teams excelled in the classroom as well. The Clark men’s and women’s cross country teams combined for 10 NEWMAC academic all-conference selections. Allison Camp ’09 (3.79), Rebecca Dash ’09 (3.76), Emily Lescak ‘07 (3.80), Kaitlyn Sephton ’09 (3.64), and Elizabeth Waste ’07 (3.71) made up the women’s cross-country recipients.

2005

The Clark University women's cross country team concluded the 2005 season under the direction of fourth-year head coach Chris D'Aniello and third-year assistant coach Michelle Walmsley. This year's squad tied local rival WPI for ninth place at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at Smith College.

Led by co-captains Amber Cochran '06 (Wolcot, VT/Peoples Academy) and Kristina Siladi '06 (Danbury, CT/Danbury), the Cougars recorded another season of growth for the program. A very successful recruiting effort brought on 13 new team members. Emily Tremaine '07 (Spokane, WA/Lewis & Clark) had an outstanding season and led the Cougars in every race. Tremaine placed 64th (24:37) of 227 runners at the ECAC Championship. Tremaine ran a season-best time of 20:55 at the Roger Williams meet placing 3rd out of 112 runners. Clark also came home with a third-place finish from the meet. The Cougars also brought home a third-place finish at the Worcester City Meet behind Tremaine's 4th-place effort of 20:17.

Their efforts earned Clark 14th place in a field of 29 teams.

Other top finishers for this year's Cougars included Elizabeth Waste '07 (Lyme, NH/Thetfard Academy), Jenna Glazer '08 (Billerica, MA/Billerica Memorial), Kerri Powers '08 (Juneau, AK/Juneau Douglas) and first-year Amanda Haimes (Atlanta, GA/Grady).
