About the Program

Rowing Team in Action

Clark University offers rowing for both men and women. The teams practice and compete on Lake Quinsigamond, located approximately five miles from campus and considered one of the best waterways for rowing in the country. The Cougars row out of the Donahue Rowing Center, the largest rowing facility in the North East and home to neighboring Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Holy Cross. The lake is the site of the New England Championships and the Eastern Sprints Regattas.

The team is open to all rowing enthusiasts. The fall season allows novice rowers the opportunity to learn the sport and experienced rowers the chance to compete in several regattas, including Boston's prestigious Head of the Charles. Spring serves as the primary competitive season and includes several races on Lake Quinsigamond including dual meets, women's NEWMAC Championship, Worcester City Championship, New England Rowing Championship and ECAC National Championship (hosted every other year on Lake Quinsigamond).

In 2005 season with a weeklong training trip to Cocoa Beach, Florida. The team's hard work paid off as the women's varsity eight finished first in the opening race of the season, defeating Sacred Heart, Brandeis and Fairfield. The women's varsity four reached new heights when they earned silver medals at the 2005 New England Championship. The Cougars earned selection to the ECAC National Championship, which was canceled due to weather.

Last season, the men's varsity four finished third in their first heat at the New England Championship with a time of 7:27.29. They went on to finish 12th of 17 boats in a time of 7:29.57, beating Connecticut College, Franklin Pierce, Williams, Mass Maritime, and Brandeis.
