NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior quad-captain Steve Dachille (Garden City, N.Y.) tallied two goals and three assists and 14 different Connecticut College Camels (2-1) tallied points in a 17-2 victory against Clark University (0-2) in New London Tuesday.
Mark Mangano (Basking Ridge, N.J.) recorded a hat-trick with three goals for the Camels. Ryan Hayes (Darien, Conn.) and Rob Walsh (Charlestown, R.I.) scored two goals each for Connecticut College, who ended the game with 13 unanswered tallies.
Connecticut College enjoyed a 49-to-18 advantage in shots and held a 50-to-33 advantage in ground balls.
Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) and Jeremy Urqhuart (Falmouth, Maine.) scored goals for Clark University. Senior net-minder Tyler Campbell (Portland, Ore.) stopped 11 shots in the setback for the visitors. Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) made two saves in relief duty.
The Camels pounced on the Cougars early, building a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter. But Clark scored the next two goals to halve the Camel advantage. Phil Winslow (No. Providence, R.I.) assisted Urqhuart for a goal in an extra man situation to make it a 4-2 game with 3:50 to go.
Senior Brendan Moses (Medfield, Mass.) spotted Dachille outside the crease for a score to break Clarks momentum and make it a 5-2 contest. Eric Doran (Pennington, N.J.) and Czerkawski closed out the quarter with scores and the Camels enjoyed a 7-2 lead after one.
The Camels added three more goals in the second. Dachille frustrated the Cougars by putting in his second score of the game with just 11.4 seconds remaining until the intermission. The Camels had broken the game wide open with a comfortable 10-2 advantage at the break.
The Camels continued to pull away, adding four goals in the third and three more scores in the fourth quarter to close out the 17-2 victory.
Rookie net-minder John Lenahan (Hingham, Mass.) stopped six saves in the first half and was credited with his first collegiate victory in the decision. Rob Moccia (Malvern, Pa.), Neil Scott (Paoli, Pa.) and Bro Smith (Wellesley, Mass.) shared the net-minding duties in the second half of play for Connecticut College.
