BRISTOL, R.I. 10/07/06 The Clark University mens cross country team raced to a second place finish, while the womens team had a fourth place performance at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas McCarthy (Scarborough, Me.) led the way for the Cougar men in the 8k. He finished ninth with a time of 29:17. It was the third time this season the junior runner finished first for Clark. Teammate Daniel Roberts (Portland, Me.) and Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) were not far behind placing 11th (29:24) and 13th (29:30), respectively. Corey Leonard (Arlington, Mass.) (42nd/31:18) and Stephen Karger (Stamford, Conn.) (52nd/31:49) rounded out Clarks top runners.
Becky Mayer (Arvada, Colo.) paced the Cougar women in the 5k. She finished ninth with a time of 20:31. Teammate Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) was 13th and set a personal best at 20:50. Other top finishers for Clark include, Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) (21st/21:43), Kerri Powers (Juneau, Ak.) (38th/22:33) and Amanda Haimes (Atlanta, Ga.) (49th/23:08).
The Clark teams will race at the Western New England College Invitational next Saturday.
