Women's Basketball Drops Second Straight Game; Fall to Salem State
SALEM, MASS. 12/01/07 - The Clark University womens basketball team dropped its second straight game with a 65-39 loss to Salem State at James Twohig Gymnasium this afternoon.
The Lady Vikings sprinted out to a 15-1 lead and never looked back en route to the victory.
Sophomore Jillian Camilleri (Lancester, Mass.) had 17 points to lead Clark. Junior Sarah Roderigue (Oakland, Me.) was held to just six points, but had a team-high seven rebounds in the game.
SSC (5-0) received seven points and six rebounds from senior forward Lindsey Watkins (Wareham) and nine points from sophomore center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough) during the first half against Clark.
The Cougars (3-2), who scored just one point over the game's first eight minutes, committed 30 turnovers and made only 14 of 48 field goal attempts (29.2%) from the floor compared to the Lady Vikings (25-for-59, 42.4%).
The Lady Vikings maintained their first half lead throughout the remainder of the game by out-scoring the Cougars, 26-20, over the final 20 minutes.
Jenkins finished with a team-high 12 points followed by Watkins with nine, senior guard Michelle Gosselin (Underhill Center, VT) and sophomore guard Manise Louinord (Lynn) with eight each, and senior guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody) with seven. Watkins pulled down a game-high nine rebounds followed by junior center Lauren Wholley (Danvers) and sophomore forward Shayla Hazard (Holyoke) who each collected a half dozen.
Clark will host Amherst College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
