Swim and Dive Split in Double-Dual Meet
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 11/17/07 - The Clark University womens and mens swim and dive team each split against Bridgewater State College and UMass-Dartmouth in a double dual-meet in North Dartmouth, Mass., on Saturday. The Cougars originally scheduled a dual-meet against Bridgewater last Saturday, but the event was postponed until today at UMD.
The Clark women (2-2) defeated UMD (149-121), but came up short against Bridgewater (147-149). The Cougar men (3-2) fell to the Corsairs (138-148) and beat Bridgewater, 149-122.
On the womens side, the Cougars posted eight individual first place finishes to topple UMD. Britney Wigley (Newport Beach, Cali.) and Lindsey Stone (Avon, Conn.) each picked up a pair of victories to lead Clark. Wigley won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:31.77) and the 200-yard free (2:06.17), while Stone took first in the 50- (26.60) and 100-yard free (59:09), respectively. Other top finishers included Kayleigh Lagasse (Pawtucket, R.I.) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:26.61); Corri Stewart (Avon, Conn.) in the 50-yard backstroke (31:41), Jess Cullen (Millford, Conn.) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.00), and Jess Baker (Queensbury, N.Y.) on the 1-meter diving board with 172.85 points.
An exciting competition came down to the final event in the womens meet against Bridgewater. However, BSCs 200-yard freestyle relay team out-touched Clarks team of Stone, Stewart, Cassie Crawford (Auburndale, Mass.) and Katie MacDowell (Littleton, Mass.) by three-tenths of a second with a time of 1:49.09 to gain the victory. Clark finished the relay in a time of 1:49.12.
Clark also had first place finishes from Jessica Moise in the 200-yard breastroke (2:47.77) and 50-yard back (35:37).
Taylor Morono (New London, N.H.), Dan Howard (Bow, N.H.) and Drew Jackson (Chestertown, Md.) each had multiple top finishes to pace Clark. Morono swam to wins in the 200-free (1:57.16) and 500-free (5:31.72); Howard finished first in the 200-butterfly (2:18.77) and 200-backstroke (2:10.22), while Jackson prevailed in the 100-free (50.80) and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.29). Curtis Reid (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also had a strong showing with his victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:25.68).
In diving events, Colin Oldenburg (Waukesha, Wis.) placed first on the 1-meter board (143.85).
Shyamal Asher (Mombasa, Kenya) captured a victory in the 50-yard backstroke (31.40) against UMass-Dartmouth.
Clark will compete in the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1.
