Cross Country Competes at NCAA Regional Championships

WATERFORD, CONN. 11/10/07 -- Several members of the Clark University cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by Connecticut College at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn., on Saturday.

Paced by 57th place Emily Tremaine, the Cougar women raced to a 24th place finish in the 47-team field. The graduate student from Spokane, Wash., finished in a time of 23:08.5 to lead Clark. Sophomore Mary Martin (Auburn, Me.) placed 139th (24:32.7), junior Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) was 184th (25:42.5), senior Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) took 197th (25:59.6), and senior Jenna Glazer (Billerica, Mass.) finished 236th (26:55) to round out the Cougars top-five finishers. Senior Keri Powers (Juneau, Ak.) (258th/27:17.4) and sophomore Emma Siemasko (Beverly, Mass.) (279th/27:57.2) also competed for Clark.

In the women’s championship, Amherst placed four runners in the top 10, rolling to the championship with a score of 40 points. Keene State College senior Jennifer Adams (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) topped the field with a winning time of 21:20 on the 6k course.

On the men’s side, Clark’s senior Thomas McCarthy (Scarborough, Me.) placed 133rd with a time of 27:07.8, while junior Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) finished 186th (28:21.5) on the 8k course. . The Amherst College Lord Jeffs edged their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Williams by just one point, finishing with 117 points to capture the title. However, Williams College’s Edgar Kosgey (Eldoret Rift Valley, Kenya) won the individual championship with a time of 24:55 on the 8k course.
