Two Women's Soccer Players Named to All-Conference Teams
WORCESTER, MASS. 11/07/07 - A pair of Clark University womens soccer players received All-Conference second team recognition, it was announced on Wednesday. Julia Rizzo and Joanna Clark are making their first appearance on the New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) all-star squad.
Rizzo, a junior defender, was the backbone of Clarks defense this season. The Westboro, Mass., native split time as the teams starting center back and right back, where she helped Clark finish third in the conference in goals allowed (1.06) and third in goals against average (1.02) during the regular-season.
A native of Windham, Me., Clark, a sophomore goalkeeper, shined in her first season with the Cougars. In the NEWMAC, she finished second in two statistical categories, including goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.816), and tied for third in shutouts with two. Clark stopped a season-high 11 shots against Western Connecticut State University in the teams season opener and ended the season with 92 saves fifth best in the conference in overall statistics.
Clark advanced to the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year and concluded its season with a 7-8-3 overall record and 4-5 NEWMAC mark.
