Corkum and Blake Earn NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference Honors

WORCESTER, MASS. 11/07/07 - Clark University’s Carley Corkum and Lauren Blake have been named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference field hockey second team, it was announced on Wednesday.

Corkum, originally from Newbury, Mass., earned her second nod on the NEWMAC All-Star squad. The sophomore defender anchored Clark’s defense from her center back position for the second consecutive season. Corkum, a two-year starter, was vital in converting defensive stops into offensive opportunities with her ability to clear the ball from the defensive zone. She also contributed offensively with two goals, including a game-winner, and an assist this season.

A native of Oakland, Me., Blake received her inaugural All-Conference selection this season. She topped the team in scoring from her forward position with 17 goals, eight assists and 42 points, just four points shy of the single season points record set by Laura Stuto ’93. In regular season play, Blake, a sophomore, finished first in points per game (2.47) and third in goals (1.00) in the NEWMAC and ranked in the top-15 nationally in points per game (11th) and goals per game (15th).

Clark advanced to the conference quarterfinal round before concluding their season at 7-10 overall.
