Gietz Named NEWMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/30/07 - Clark University’s Preben Gietz was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s soccer player of the week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Originally from Waterloo, Belgium, Gietz found the perfect time to notch his first goal of the season in a key 1-0 NEWMAC victory over Wheaton College last Saturday. In addition to scoring the game-winner, the sophomore defender also helped Clark to its fourth conference shutout of the season. It marked the first time the Cougars had beaten Wheaton since joining the NEWMAC and helped the squad secure the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament.

Clark (6-4-6, 3-2-1 NEWMAC) will host fifth seed MIT in the NEWMAC quarterfinal round on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
