Babson shuts out women's soccer 2-0 in a NEWMAC conference game

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Babson College scored both of its goals in the first half on its way to a 2-0 victory over visiting Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer contest at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers improved to 9-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference, while the Cougars dropped to 6-8-2 overall and 3-5-0 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Jackie Graham (Winchester, Mass.) game Babson a 1-0 lead early in the first half, as she scored an unassisted goal at 6:24. The Beavers then made it 2-0 at 30:34, as senior Nikki Stier (Deerfield, Mass.) scored off a rebound of senior Anita Martignetti's (Winchester, Mass.) shot.

That would prove to be enough for Beavers' first-year goalie Kristy Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who stopped both of the Cougars' shots on net in the second half to secure the victory. Sophomore Sam Scarpato (Weston, Mass.) played the first half in goal for Babson, making one save to earn the win.

Sophomore Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) played the entire game in net for the Cougars, finishing with four saves.
