Men's Soccer falls in overtime to Colby-Sawyer 2-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. - October 20, 2007 - Clark's Lino Goncalves (Newton, Mass.) scored just five minutes into the game, but the Cougars could not hold on, as Colin Bellavance (Dudley, Mass.) tied the game just over ten minutes into the second half and Doug Currie (Harvard, Mass.) scored the game winner off a pass from Tyler Davis (Laconia, N.H.) two minutes into the second overtime, giving the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer the 2-1 win on Senior Day.

The Cougars came out firing, scoring on freshman goalkeeper T.J. Doherty (E. Granby, Conn.) in the game's first five minutes. Goncalves took a Mike Tobagis (Action, Mass.) pass and found the back of the net, giving the Cougars the early 1-0 lead.

Colby-Sawyer answered in the second half, as Bellavance took a Nic DeZenzo (Methuen, Mass.) cross from midfield and headed the ball in past diving Clark goalkeeper Peter Wise (Providence, R.I.), knotting the game at a goal apiece.

Both teams battled for the remainder of regulation, with neither team able to convert.

In the first overtime, Clark took three shots, but could not put one on goal. Colby-Sawyer had one shot on goal in the first overtime, but Wise kept the Chargers from ending the game.

Two minutes into the second overtime period, Colby-Sawyer capitalized, as Currie took a Tyler Davis (Laconia, N.H.) pass and bounced the ball over Wise's head, as the ball rolled in for the winning score. Wise had 11 saves in goal for the Cougars while Doherty tallied five for the Chargers.

Clark (5-4-6, 2-2-1 NEWMAC) closes out their regular season on Saturday, October 27 when they host Wheaton College for a 1 p.m. NEWMAC game.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-7-2 overall and closes out the regular season on Wednesday, October 24 when they host Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
