Field Hockey Falls to Wheaton College

NORTON, MA- The Clark University field hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to Wheaton College on Tuesday in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Clark field.

Wheaton is now 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Cougars fall to 5-7 and 0-4.

Senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) had two goals and an assist, while freshman Jessica Strock (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) recorded her first collegiate two-goal game to lead the Lyons.

Wheaton nabbed a 2-0 lead after fewer than five minutes had elapsed, as Dimick's cross from the right endline was redirected into the center of the net by Strock at 4:23. Just 28 seconds later, junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) took a blast from just inside the circle on the right wing that made it a two-goal game.

During the 12th minute, senior Kim Anson (Washington, CT/Shepaug Valley) sent a pass into the left side of the circle that was deflected by Strock past charging sophomore keeper Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and into the lower right corner of the goal. Freshman Haley Chrisos (Beverly, MA/Bishop Fenwick) made it 4-0 heading into halftime by knocking in a loose ball off a scrum in the 28th minute.

In the second frame, Dimick tallied twice off of individual efforts. She scored first at 37:15 and then again at 45:24. With time expired at the end of regulation, Clark junior Madeleine Henefield (Pelham, MA/Amherst Regional) tipped in sophomore Chelsea Proulx's (Franklin, NH/Bishop Brady) penalty-corner pass.

Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) made one first-half save for the Lyons, while sophomore Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) stopped four shots in the second stanza. Dawsey turned aside nine shots during nearly 30 minutes of action, and freshman Katelyn McGrath (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington) made 10 saves in relief. The Lyons finished with advantages of 30-9 in shots and 16-5 in penalty corners.

Clark will travel to Mount Holyoke College on Saturday (1 p.m.).
