Adamcik Goal Leads Women's Soccer Past WPI, 1-0
Worcester, MA- Senior Liz Adamcik (Florence, MA) scored with less than two minutes remaining in the match to help Clark defeat host WPI 1-0 in NEWMAC womens soccer action on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Cougars improve to 6-5-2 (3-2 NEWMAC) while the Engineers slip to 6-7 (2-3 NEWMAC).
Adamciks team-leading fourth goal of the season was scored with just 1:31 left to play when she took a feed from Jess Mirkin (Wellesley, MA) and buried a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
"It was an important game for both teams," said head coach Joe Brady. "It was critical for us to get a positive result and Im glad we were able to accomplish that today."
Both teams played tenacious defense throughout the contest. On the afternoon, the Cougars enjoyed an advantage in both shots (15-4) and corner kicks (8-0).
The best chance to score for the Crimson and Gray came on a breakaway in the 77th minute when freshman Katie Partridge (Worcester, MA) knocked a pass to classmate Kristen Garza (Kingston, MA), but her shot went wide to the right of the net.
WPI senior goalkeeper Nicole DeCampo (Stoneham, MA) was spectacular in net as she was called upon to make eight saves while her Clark counterpart Joanna Clark (Windham, ME) made one stop on the day to record her third shutout of the season.
Both teams will return to the field with NEWMAC matches at 1pm on Saturday. The Engineers will start a brief two-game road trip with a match versus MIT while Clark entertains nationally ranked Wheaton.
