Men's and Women's Cross Country Finishes Two and Three at Roger Williams Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. 10/607 - The Clark University men’s and women’s cross country team raced to a second and third place finish, respectively, at the Roger Williams University Invitational on Saturday.

Roger Williams captured both the men’s and women’s titles. In the 10-team field the Clark men placed second with 82 points, while the Cougar women finished with 73 points for third out of 12 squads.

On the 8K course, junior Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) was the first Clark runner to cross the finish line in a time of 29:16. Senior Thomas McCarthy (Scarborough, Me.) placed ninth (29:37); first-year Martin Leggett (Bangor, Pa.) was 14th (30:01); freshman Bob Naughton (Holliston, Mass.) took 26th (31:20), and John Frederickson finished 30th (31:45) to round out Clark’s top-five.

On the women’s side, graduate student Emily Tremaine paced the Cougar women. The Spokane, Wash., native placed third with a time of 19:56 on the 5K course. Other top finishers included, sophomore Mary Martin (Auburn, Me.) (8th/20:46), senior Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) (11th/21:22), junior Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) (21st/22:40), junior Ali Bowers (Wayland, Mass.) (32nd/23:19) and senior Kerriann Powers (Juneau, Ak.) (33rd/23:21).

Both Clark teams will compete at the Western New England College Invitational next Saturday.
