Adamcik scores twice in two minutes to power Women's Soccer past Mount Holyoke, 4-1

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/6/07 - Liz Adamcik (Florence, Mass.) scored twice to lead the women’s soccer team past New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Mount Holyoke College 4-1 at Granger Field on Saturday.

With the win Clark brings their record to 5-5-2 (2-2 NEWMAC) while Mount Holyoke falls to 2-9 (0-4 NEWMAC).

Clark controlled play throughout the first half as they placed 19 shots on goal to Mount Holyoke’s 3. The Cougars had a number of chances to score early on with their best bid coming on a cross from Julia Rizzo (Westboro, Mass.) to Amanda Ramos (Williston Park, N.Y.) who appeared to have the goal but was called offsides to negate the score.

Julie Murray (Millbury, Mass.) gave the Cougars the lead when she took a ball from Ramos and knocked it off the crossbar and in for her second collegiate goal at the 33:36 mark.

The match evened out minutes later, however, when a Clark own goal following a shot from Lindsay Ordower (Scotch Plains, N.J.) tied the score at one a piece.

The half would end with the game knotted 1-1.

Clark took the lead early into the second half when Lauren King drilled a free kick at Mount Holyoke keeper Elaine Harvey (Bolton, Mass.) who got a hand on it but could not stop the shot. The score marked King’s team-leading third goal of the season and put Clark up 2-1 just 4:35 into the period.

Liz Adamcik (Florence, Mass.) opened the game up for the Cougars when she scored twice in two minutes. Her first goal was unassisted off a blocked kick by Ramos that left Adamcik open with the ball in front of the net. On Clark’s next attack Heather Winn (Salem, Mass.) served Adamcik the ball for a shot from the right side to mark her third goal of the season to tie the team lead and give Clark the 4-1 lead.

Harvey made 12 stops for the Lyons while Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) turned aside 3 for the Cougars.

Clark travels to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday (4 pm) while Mount Holyoke visits Smith College the same day (4 pm).
