Field Hockey Beat by Wellesley College, 6-0

WELLESLEY, MA - The Clark University field hockey team dropped its second straight game, a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Wellesley College Blue in a Tuesday afternoon New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up.

First-year Madeline Block (Saratoga, CA) scored three times to lead the Blue. The Blue outshot Clark 30-5 including holding a 17-2 advantage in the first half of play.

Wellesley took a 1-0 lead when Callie Lekas (Brewster, MA) scored unassisted at the 12 minute mark. Lekas then helped the Blue stretch the lead to 2-0 when she found teammate Katie Sang (Cupertino, CA) who scored 21:29 into play.

With five minutes left in the first half, Block started her scoring streak with a goal off of a penalty corner. At 34:52, she scored once more, this time on an assist from Sang that gave Wellesley a 4-0 lead at the half.

Opening play in the second period, Block needed 10 minutes and 12 seconds to record her third score and push the Wellesley lead to 5-0. The goal was assisted by Sally Scudder (Delafield, WI).

Rounding out the scoring for the Blue, Kathryn Frett (Hallowell, ME) converted on a penalty corner to set the final score at 6-0 in favor of Wellesley.

Clark goalkeeper Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, NY) had a busy night for the Cougars racking up a career-high 23 saves. Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, VA) picked up three saves for Wellesley.

The loss sets Clark’s record to 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

Up next, Clark will host Anna Maria for a 7:00 pm start on Thursday evening.
