Tremaine Named NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

WORCESTER, MASS. 09/25/07 – Graduate student Emily Tremaine was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s cross country runner of the week, it was announced on Wednesday.

Tremaine, a native of Spokane, Wash., raced to a first place finish at the 2007 Worcester City Meet Championships at Moore State Park’s 5K course in Paxton, Mass., last Saturday. Her efforts helped the Cougars earn just their second championship in 12 years – the team also claimed the title in 1995. The women placed three runners in the top five to win the championship with 27 points.

Tremaine, who sat out last season due to injury, crossed the finish line at 20:25 to claim the individual championship. “It was one of my goals at the beginning of the year to win the city meet,” Tremaine said. “It turned out great because our team won too. It could not have ended any better. It was a great last city meet.”

Prior to last Saturday, Tremaine’s highest finish at the Worcester City Meet was second place as a first-year runner.
