Volleyball Falls Short Against Mount Ida
NEWTON, MASS. 09/20/07 - The Clark University womens volleyball team dropped its sixth straight match with a 3-1 loss to Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass. on Thursday night.
Clark falls to 2-7 overall, while Mount Ida improves to 12-3.
The Cougars took the first game, 30-27. Clark started strong going up 18-9, but MIC wouldnt be denied catching up to tie it at 27-27. However, the visitors sealed the first set with a couple of key Mount Ida errors.
Mount Ida rallied to win the remaining sets, 17-30, 27-30, and 29-31. Clark came out strong in the fourth game going ahead by as many as seven points. The Mustangs chipped away at the lead knotting it at 22-22, 23-23, 24-24, and 25-25. The Cougars pulled away by three making it 25-28 but Mount Ida grabbed the moment and jumped on the back of the outstanding play of sophomore Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) to take the deciding fourth game.
Sophomores Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Liz Magier (Newburgh, N.Y.) posted defensive career-bests in the game. Visone finished with 38 digs, while Magier recorded 25. Senior Sarah Hunsucker (Orinda, Cali.) added 13 kills, 17 digs and five blocks and second-year player Kylie Kutney (Commerce, Mich.) dished out 26 assists.
Clark will host Mitchell College in non-conference action on Saturday (1 p.m.).
