Volleyball Drops Two at Worcester City Tournament

WORCESTER, MASS. 09/08/07 -- The Clark University women’s volleyball team dropped two games at the Worcester City Tournament hosted by WPI on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars fell to WPI, 3-1 (24-30, 30-12, 24-30, 27-30), and dropped a tough five-game match to Worcester State College, 3-2. Game scores were 30-22, 30-28, 27-30, 21-30 and 10-15.

Clark holds a 2-3 overall mark. Assumption College captured the Worcester City Title. It marks the fifth straight city championship for the Greyhounds and ninth in the 24-year history of the event.

In the opening match, senior Sarah Hunsucker (Orinda, Cali.) and junior Karleen Porcena (Roxbury, Mass.) had 12 kills apiece to lead Clark. Sophomores Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Kylie Kutney (Commerce, Mich.) had 14 digs and 29 assists, respectively. Sophomore Brittany Meadows (Los Angeles, Cali.) chipped in with six kills and two block-assists.

In the consolation game against Worcester State, Hunsucker led the Cougars with a career-high 23 kills. Visone finished with 26 digs.

Clark will travel to Babson College on Tuesday (7 p.m.) for its NEWMAC season opener.
