Blake and Dawsey Lead Field Hockey Past Pilgrims, 5-4

WORCESTER, MASS. 09/08/07 -- Sophomore forward Lauren Blake (Oakland, Me.) scored three goals, including the game-winner, and sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had a career-high 18 saves to lead the Clark University field hockey team to a 5-4 non-conference victory over New England College on Saturday at Granger Field.

Clark, who hosted the Cougar Pride Fall Kick-Off Event today, improves to 2-1. NEC dips to 1-2.

Clark took a 1-0 lead on Blake’s third goal of the season at the 12:05 mark. Sophomore Chelsea Proulx (Franklin, N.H.) added to the Cougars lead when she received a feed from Brooke Osgood (Clifton Park, N.Y.) in the 24th minute to make it 2-0.

NEC cut the deficit in half (1-2) when Samantha Escobar (Rumney, N.H.) converted a pass from Marisa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.) just over six minutes remaining in the first period.

Clark went into the intermission with a 2-1 advantage.

Blake put Clark up 3-1 on an unassisted goal at the 41:15 mark. The two teams traded goals over the next three minutes. Courtney Edmands (Kennebunk, Me.) put one in for NEC and Clark’s Sasha Burgess (Chelmsford, Mass.) notched her first collegiate point at the 55:20 mark for a 4-2 edge. Blake netted the game-winner over a minute and a half later to ice the victory.

Amanda Lester (Columbia, Conn.) had two goals and an assist to lead the Pilgrims, who outshot Clark 28-18.

Krista Ingaharro (Essex, Mass.) (four saves) and Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) (five saves) split time in goal for New England College.

Clark will travel to UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
