Second Half Surge Lifts Women's Soccer Past Purchase College
Purchase, NY (Sept. 3, 2007) -- Four different players scored as the Clark University womens soccer team earned their first victory of the season, a 4-0 shutout win over Purchase College on Monday afternoon.
Clark improved to 1-1, dropping the Panthers to 0-2 on the season.
The Cougars utilized three second period goals to secure the victory. Off a feed from Megan ORourke (Somerset, Mass.), Clarks Allison Kennelly (Irvington, N.Y.) scored with 1:09 left in the first to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Both teams put on a defensive display in the opening period, but the second half belonged to Clark University offensively. Captain Jen Dineen (Groveland, Mass.), Lauren King (Piscataway, N.J.) and Kari Mruz (Hingham, Mass.) all tallied unassisted goals in the second period. Purchase was out shot 20-3 in the second half.
Joanna Clark (Windham, Me.) earned the win for Clark in goal. She finished with one save. Newcomer Stephanie Janasiewicz (FR/Kingston, NY) recorded 13 saves in the second period after relieving starter Emilie Buse (SO/Loudonville, NY) in goal.
Clark opens at home against Worcester State College (6:30 p.m.) on Thursday.
