Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Western Connecticut

DANBURY, CT -- The Clark University women’s soccer team had its season opener spoiled with a 1-0 loss to Western Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

The Colonials came into the opener ranked 18th in the NSCAA Division III Coach's Pre-Season Poll.

Catherine Nathans (New Fairfield, CT) headed home the game's only goal in the 56th minute off a free kick from senior back Caitlin Boyle (Southbury, CT). Boyle's kick came from about 40 yards out and was perfectly placed to Nathans, waiting inside the box.

Despite the loss, Clark keeper Joanna Clark (Windham, Me.) had a strong showing in goal with 11 saves. WestConn goalie Jenna Cappellieri (Stratford, CT) earned the shut out after making just one save. The Colonials defense limited the Cougars to just three shots on the afternoon.

Clark will travel to SUNY-Purchase for a non-league match up on Monday (1 p.m.).
