Volleyball Posts 1-1 Mark in Season Opening Tri-Match

WORCESTER, MASS. 09/01/07 -- The Clark University women’s volleyball team posted a 1-1 record at a tri-match between Roger Williams University and Husson College at the Kneller Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. It was the season opener for the Cougars and the debut of new coach Mickey Cahoon.

In its opening game of the day, Clark defeated Roger Williams, 30-25, before dropping the next three games, 16-30, 10-30 and 14-30.

Senior captain Sarah Hunsucker (Orinda, Cali.) had 10 kills and nine digs to lead the Cougars. Sophomore outside hitter Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 17 digs, while second-year player Liz Magier (Newburgh, N.Y.) chipped in with 11.

Clark (1-1) swept Husson College, 3-0, in its final match. Game scores were 30-26, 30-28 and 30-28. Hunsucker, a middle-blocker, led the Cougars with 12 kills and 11 digs. Visone recorded 12 digs and sophomore setter Kylie Kutney (Commerce, Mi.) added 11 digs and five service aces in the victory.

Junior Cassandra O’Neil (Manchester, N.H.) had eight kills, nine digs and two service aces to pace Husson (0-2). Sophomore Marion Kish (Wallingford, Conn.) registered 30 assists, 14 digs and three aces, while first-year Kimbre Chase (Greene, Me.) finished with a game-high 18 digs.

In other matches, Roger Williams (2-0) took three from Husson.
