Men's Varsity Four Takes First in Regatta
WORCESTER, MASS. 4/15/07 Despite high winds and low temperatures, the Clark University mens varsity four raced to a first place finish in a regatta held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday.
In a two-boat race, the Cougars outlasted Wentworth Institute of Technology with a time of 7:36.3. Coxswain Leah Block (Acton, Mass.), Russell Giacobbe (Nyack, N.Y.), Andrew Gager (Kennebunk, Me.), Josh Cohen (Brighton, Mass.), and Tom Valleau (Andover, Mass.) manned the winning boat. Wentworth finished in a time of 7:54.7.
The boat of coxswain Amanda McLoughlin (Park Ridge, N.J.), Cohen, Horia Kraus (Bucharest, Romania), Igor Partola (Norwalk, Conn.), and Mike Hardie (Weymouth, Mass.) won the second varsity fours race (8:05.8). Brandeis placed second (8:38.2) and Wentworth was third (8:43.9).
The Cougar womens varsity eight took fifth (8:18.6) and the varsity four placed third (10:11.6).
The Clark University womens rowing team will compete at the NEWMAC Championship next Saturday and the mens rowing squad will race against Mass. Maritime Academy on Sunday.
