Cross Country Teams Compete at NEWMAC Championships
SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. 10/28/06 The Clark University mens and womens cross country teams competed at the New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on the Mount Holyoke College course on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The Clark men were paced by Thomas McCarthy (Scarborough, Me.), who came in 51st in a time of 29:53. Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) (57th/30:22), Dan Roberts (Portland, Me.) (60th/30:24), Stephen Karger (Stamford, Conn.) (68th/31:03), and John Fredrickson (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) (76th/31:35) were the Cougars other top finishers.
Mike Flint captured the title in a time of 26:44. The senior from Coast Guard earned NEWMAC Runner of the Year honors with his first place finish. MIT claimed the mens title with 26 points. Clark finished seventh (187 points).
Becky Mayer (Arvado, Colo.) crossed the finish line first for the Cougar women. She placed 29th in a time of 21:05 to lead Clark. Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) was 64th (22:35), Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) finished 80th (23:10), Vera Simon-Nobes (Charlotte, Vt.) placed 86th (23:28), and Alison Camp (Walla Walla, Wash.) took 89th (23:34).
Wellesleys Clare Eggan was the individual winner for the women. She won in a time of 19:45 to take both Runner of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades. Coast Guard captured the womens championship with 54 points. Clark placed ninth with 252.
