McCarthy and Mayer lead Cross Country Teams at Mount Holyoke Invitational
SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. 09/30/06 Junior Tom McCarthy (Scarborough, Maine) finished 12th overall to lead the Clark University mens cross country team to a third place showing in the Mount Holyoke College Invitational in South Hadley, Mass. on Saturday. The womens team placed fourth overall in the meet.
McCarthy finished with a time of 28:22 in the 8k race to lead the Cougar men. Senior Dan Roberts (Portland, Maine) placed 17th (29:06), Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) came in 20th (29:37), Stephen Karger (Stamford, Conn.) took 24th (30:56) and Cory Leonard (Arlington, Mass.) finished 25th (31:03) to round out Clarks top runners.
Clark finished with 64 points. MIT swept the top-10 placements to capture the Invitational with 15 points. Kevin Brulois won the race in a time of 26:43.
Becky Mayer (Arvada, Colo.) paced the Cougar women. She finished 15th with a time of 20:33. Other top runners included, Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) (19th/21:02), Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) (28th/21:31), Vera Simon-Nobles (42nd/23:01), followed by Alison Camp (Walla Walla, Wash.) (43rd/23:03).
Clark totaled 117 points. Wellesley College claimed the 5k womens title with 23 points. Wellesleys Clare Egan placed first (19:29).
The Clark mens and womens cross country teams will travel to the Roger Williams Invitational next Saturday.
