Cross Country Opens Season at Conn. College Invitational
NEW LONDON, CONN. 09/9/06 The Clark University womens and mens cross country teams opened its 2006 respective seasons at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday.
Senior Becky Mayer (Arvada, Colo.) was the first Cougar woman to cross the five-mile course finish line. She placed 66th with a time of 20:24. Teammate Kaitlyn Sephton (Shutesbury, Mass.) placed 149th (21:50); Ellen Durand (Billerica, Mass.) took 187th (22:45); Amanda Haimes (Atlanta, Ga.) was 248th (23:50) and Allison Camp (Walla Walla, Wash.) finished 253rd (24:01) to round out the top Clark women runners.
Tufts Universitys Catherine Beck won the race in a time of 18:06. Clark placed 23rd in the womens 27-team field with 620 points.
On the mens side, senior Daniel Roberts (Portland, Me.) (204th/29:29) paced the Cougars in the 8k race. Caleb Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) and John Fredrickson (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) finished 229th (29:53) and 230th (29:56) respectively; Thomas McCarthy (Scarborough, Me.) placed 279th (31:05) and Nathan Sanders (Sterling, Mass.) was 338th with a time of 33:21.
Hunter Norte of Trinity College placed first with a time of 24:59.
The Cougar cross country teams will race in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational next Saturday.
