Swimming & Diving: Clark Set To Participate In "Hour of Power"

Worcester, Mass. - The Clark University Swimming & Diving team will be participating in the annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power for Sarcoma Research, on Wednesday, November 11th it was announced by head coach Paul E. Phillips recently.

The event is a dynamic 60-minute relay training session that requires all-out efforts from all participating team members. It is in honor of Carleton College swimmer Ted Mullin, who passed away in the fall of 2006 from sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer.

The set up for the "Hour of Power" is as follows: team members are equally divided among the number of lanes to be used. For 6 or 8 lane facilities it is ideal to use every lane. It is also a good idea to have a minimum of 5-6 team members per lane for each relay. All relay swims are completed in 50-yard segments.

Perhaps most important objective - for high levels of performance to occur throughout this hour, equally high levels of enthusiastic encouragement must be evident at every possible moment. In other words, having significant amounts of cheering and expressive levels of excitement from all team members and coaches is inherently required.

More than 100 swimming & diving teams across the country will be simultaneously participating in the event beginning at 5:00 PM EST.

The swimming and diving program at Clark invite you to join them and make a donation to the Ted Mullin Fund for Sarcoma Research at the University of Chicago. If you cannot attend but would like to donate, you can drop off cash to Head Coach Paul E. Phillips, or make a check payable to "The University of Chicago". No amount is too small.

This year the event will have particular significance to the Swimming & Diving team and the Athletic Department, with the return of Men's co-captain Mike Smith, who is back in the pool after being diagnosed with Burkitt's Lymphoma and undergoing treatment last summer/fall.
