Women's Swimming: Cougars Split Dual Meet With Babson
Worcester, Mass. - The Clark swimming and diving teams split their dual meet with NEWMAC rival Babson, with the women collecting a 185-100 win, and the men dropping a close 157-138 decision to the Beavers on Saturday at the Kneller Pool.
On the women's side, the Cougars got a huge performance from senior captain Dana Akerfelds (Bronxville, N.Y.) who claimed three victories on her day in the pool. She swam the first leg of the 200 yard medley relay and then took first place in both the 50-yard and 100-yard backstrokes.
Sophomore All-American Eileen Garcia (New York, N.Y.) picked right up where she left off last season, collecting a win on the 1-meter diving board. She was followed in that event by two fellow Cougars - freshman Staci Celiberti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Jordan Heller (Sherman Oaks, Calif.).
Freshman Emily Newton (East Lyme, Conn.) grabbed a win in the 100-yard butterfly, while Clark took the top three spots in the 50-yard led by Maura Houghton (Stoneham, Mass,), Lisa Packard (Arlington, Mass.) and Sarah Petrini (Bellevue, Wash.).
For the men, sophomore Ryan Garr (Kingston, R.I.) had a productive day, finishing first in the 50-yard backstroke, the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 50-yard freestyle.
Captain Mike Smith (Milford, Conn.) returned to the pool and promptly posted a pair of second place finishes (50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard breaststroke) and a third place showing (200 IM).
Clark returns to the pool on Saturday, November 7 for its annual Alumni Meet.
