Men's Soccer: Clark Nets 1-0 Non-Conference Win

Worcester, Mass. - Junior reserve Greg Jancarik (Swansea, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season less than five minutes after entering the game as a substitution to lift host Clark University to a 1-0 win over visiting Lasell on Wednesday evening in men's soccer action on Granger Field.

Senior John Machado (Bristol, Conn.), who had scored the game-winning goal for the Cougars in each of their last two games, had the assist on the game's lone score.

The victory extends Clark's winning streak over non-conference opponents to seven games and pushes their overall record to 8-3, while Lasell slips to 5-3-2.

Jancarik's goal came moments after the Lasers had an excellent scoring chance of their own. A corner kick resulted in a shot that was blocked but bounced to Paul Meucci (Vernon, Conn.) who fired a shot that banged off the crossbar.

Clark had an excellent shot to add an insurance score in the second half but Jancarik hit the post on an attempt from inside the box.

Laser netminder Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, Mass.) turned away seven shots for Lasell, while Cougar backstop Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) needed only two saves to record his third career shutout.

After 11 games in 2009, Clark has two more wins that it had at this stage of their NCAA season of 2008.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they host WPI at noon. The Lasers, meanwhile, travel to Rivier on Saturday for their next matchup.
