Women's Soccer: Pistol Peete - Sophomore Caps Wild OT Comeback
Box Score
Worcester, Mass. - Sophomore Erin Peete's (Clinton, Mass.) second goal in as many games proved to be the difference, catapulting Clark women's soccer to an improbable 2-1 double overtime win over upstart Lasell on Tuesday evening on Granger Field.
Peete registered her game-winning tally at 101:17 off a feed from classmate Molly Meehan (Scotch Plains, N.J.). Her low shot was fired left to right past Laser goalkeeper Elisabeth Stickley (Mashpee, Mass.) sending the Cougars to their second straight win and improving their overall record to 3-2.
Things seemed bleak for Clark after a goal from Lasell striker Jordynn Follo (Uxbridge, Mass.) early in the first half looked as if it would stand as the only score of the match. Then, with less than 30 seconds left in regulation, junior Laura Hedden (East Greenbush, N.Y.) controlled a loose ball in front of the net and blasted a shot past Stickley to even the score at the 89:32 mark.
The Cougars, who held a sizable advantage in shots taken (20-5), had a chance to end the match late in the first overtime, but Charlotte Bowman's (Peterborough, N.H.) shot at 97:52 went wide.
The win in the extra frame marks the fourth time in the last two seasons in which the Cougars have scored the game-winning goal after the 80th minute of action.
Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) needed to only make two saves to collect the win, while Stickley turned away nine shots in net for the Lasers.
Clark returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Brandeis for a noon start with the Judges, while Lasell gets back in action on Friday with a home showdown with Emmanuel.
