Women's Soccer: Union Downs Cougars, 2-0

Worcester, Mass. - Behind two second half goals, including one on a penalty kick, visiting Union College collected a 2-0 win over the host Clark University women's soccer squad on Wednesday evening on Granger Field.

The win for the Dutchwomen marked the third consecutive meeting between the two teams that have ended with Union taking a 2-0 win.

Unlike the Cougars' first two contests of the season, no goals were scored in the first half. Rather, both scores came in the final 45 minutes.

The Dutchwomen looked like they take a lead in the early moments of the second half, but a shot by Caitlin O'Donnell hit the crossbar, leaving the match scoreless.

Union finally broke through in the 63rd minute when Bianca Germain set up Katie McLain for the game's first tally and her second of the season.

Less than five minutes later Katie Weinstein converted a penalty kick with a low shot past a diving Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine), giving the visitors a 2-0 edge.

The Cougars stayed aggressive, and had their best scoring chance of the night on a blast in the 89th minute but Union netminder Abby Stohler made a fantastic save diving to her right to gobble up her sixth save of the night.

Clark, meanwhile, turned away 11 shots in between the pipes for the Cougars.

Clark, now 1-2 on the season, returns to action on Saturday when they host Elms at 12 p.m.
